A New Deal For Higher Education–Campaign Kickoff February 10

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the long-standing crisis in higher education. Declining state support, the increased use of contingent appointments, the loss of faculty voices on campus, and the erosion of tenure and shared governance are threatening the core mission of higher education in our society. Now is the time to stand up for a just, inclusive system of higher ed—one that can help transform our society.
We need a new deal for higher education!

Wednesday, February 10, at 2 p.m. EST, join us for a launch of our campaign.
The American Association of University Professors (AAUP), the American
Federation of Teachers (AFT), and allies and supporters across the higher education
community are proposing an ambitious agenda that centers on four main values:
1. building prosperity from the bottom up;
2. advancing social, racial, and economic justice;
3. strengthening democracy and civil society; and
4. fostering knowledge and innovation.

The New Deal for Higher Education platform will seek to recenter our colleges and universities as a common good. In addition to addressing tuition and institutional funding, we will pursue reforms related to labor practices, academic freedom and governance, federal research funding, and racial injustice and inequities.

AFT/AAUP are uniting for this campaign kickoff event February 10 at 2:00 pm Eastern/11:00 am Pacific. Please be sure to note the time zone differences.
