Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains and Sargun Kaur
Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains and Sargun Kaur work at the South Asian Studies Institute (SASI) at the University of the Fraser Valley at Abbotsford. Dr. Bains is an Associate Professor in School of Culture, Media and Society and the director of SASI at UFV. Her current research interests include migration, settlement, and integration; cross-cultural education and curriculum implementation; race, racism, and ethnicity; identity politics; South Asian Canadian Diaspora studies, Punjabi cultural historiographies.
Sargun is a student in her 3rd year of BBA program at UFV and works as a Research Assistant at SASI where her main focus includes the promotion and distribution of a documentary- Rails, Jails and Trolleys.
Rails, Jails, & Trolleys is a feature-length documentary, directed by Henna Mann and produced by the South Asian Studies Institute (SASI) at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia. The documentary highlights the timeline of the historic Farmers’ Movement in India and the Canadian diaspora’s response to it.
