Joseph B. Walzer is the managing editor of the Encyclopedia of Milwaukee at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His recent dissertation, “Making an Old-World Milwaukee: German Heritage, Nostalgia and the Reshaping of the Twentieth Century City,” examined the continued importance of white ethnicity in Milwaukee’s late-twentieth century neoliberal politics.
