Regina V. Polk Women’s Labor Leadership Conference: Call for Applications

The time has come again to recruit women to attend the Regina V. Polk Women’s Labor Leadership Conference. This year the school will take place May 16-20, 2018 at the Pere Marquette Lodge in Grafton, Illinois. The Lodge is a unionized conference facility outside of St. Louis and offers the perfect environment in which to both learn and heal from the emotional and physical impacts of work.

While every year the school offers women hands-on workshops to learn skills such as communications, understanding your union contract, and how to build your leadership skills, the topic of this year’s school will be on fighting sexual harassment in the workplace. This topic has always been an important one, but given the recent public conversation about sexual harassment couldn’t be more timely.

We hope you will consider sending some of your members to the school.

The application is available online at: https://ler.illinois.edu/?page_id=176

Applicants can either apply online or submit a paper application which you can download on our website. The deadline for applications is April 5, 2018.

The cost of the school $675 and includes all class time, food, and lodging (double rooms). It does not include transportation to and from Grafton although we do offer free shuttle service to and from the Amtrak station in Alton, Illinois. Scholarships are available.

I hope you will consider having some of your members apply. Last year, the attendees represented 16 different unions from around the country. We believe learning in an environment with women from so many diverse backgrounds offers a unique perspective they cannot get elsewhere. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
